Macau Businesswomen’s Association joins MIF for first time

The Macau Businesswomen Association (MBWA) will join the 11th Macau International Investment and Trade Fair (MIF) to introduce its members’ products and services, to promote its activities and, last but not least, to make new business friends, MBWA President Jennie Kong Mei Fan told The Macau Post Daily in a recent interview.

Speaking at her office, Ms. Kong said it would be the first time for the MBWA to join the MIF, stressing that 10 of her association’s member companies would promote their services and products at five stands, two companies sharing one stand each. She was quick to add that while more than 10 of the MBWA’s member companies had shown interest in joining the 11th MIF at the end of the this month, space limitations meant that her association could not book more than five stands this time.

Ms. Kong also said the MBWA would arrange the five stands as a single exhibition area called “Macau Style”, which would comprise three parts: an exhibition area for conventional products such as construction materials, a food products area, and a “high-quality” products area promoting, among other things, electronics and cosmetics.

Ms. Kong said that “99.9 per cent” of the corporate members of her association were small-and-medium sized enterprises (SMEs). She stressed that it was important for local SMEs to adopt a “positive attitude” towards the potential of expanding their businesses outside Macau, especially in the Portuguese-speaking world that has long-standing ties of friendship with Macau.

On the other hand, Ms. Kong stressed that her association’s member companies were also keen to open up business relations with mainland companies. “We may be approaching this goal step by step, and the first step is to get to know each other, such as at the MIF.

Ms. Kong added that in order to cope with intense competition, SMEs should follow two different ways: firstly, by participating in exhibitions for promotional activities and, secondly, by establishing their own brands.

“Macau is changing. Ideas are changing, and people need changes, too.”

The 11th MIF will be held at the Macau Tower Convention and Entertainment Centre on September 23-26.
