Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) officially admitted as a member of the Global Association of the Exhibition Industry (UFI); Macao International Trade and Investment Fair (MIF) granted as an UFI approved event
Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) has received an official notice from the Global Association of the Exhibition Industry (UFI) informing that during the 72nd UFI Congress, held on 19-22 October 2005 in Moscow, Russia, the Macao International Trade and Investment Fair (MIF) organized by IPIM and coordinated by Macao Convention & Exhibition Association (MCEA), was admitted as an “UFI approved event”, and IPIM was also accepted as a full member of UFI.
UFI was set up in 1925 with its head office based in Paris, France. UFI is one of the major international associations of the exhibition industry.
The provision of approving international trade fair is the core responsibility of UFI. The exhibition is recognized as high-quality trade fair after gaining UFI event approval. The organizer is only admitted as a full member of UFI while at least one of its exhibitions being approved by UFI. The service, quality and worldwide recognition are required to achieve certain standard for granting the status of UFI approval. Meanwhile, the applicant’s event must conform to UFI’s strict requirement in terms of its scale, history, local and overseas exhibition’s proportion, etc.
MIF is the first international fair in Macao approved by UFI, while IPIM is the first organization in Macao gaining full UFI membership. Besides, MIF is the second trade fair approved by UFI in category of investment promotion, following the China International Fair for Investment & Trade (CIFIT). It is to further substantiate function and position of MIF in international investment promotion.
UFI currently has 334 member organizations from 73 countries and so far has approved 741 international trade fairs.
The admission of IPIM as full UFI member and MIF as an UFI approved event both come a long way in promoting the exhibition industry in Macao as well as raising the industry’s standards. IPIM will share the network and resource from UFI with local industry members and utilize UFI as platform to connect with international industry, which also assists in raising the level and standard of MICE industry. IPIM will work towards the cooperation with the exhibition industry in Macao. In addition to MIF, IPIM will kick off a series of activities including the issuing of a research report on the strategies in promoting the local exhibition industry, setting professional standards and an event approval mechanism, enhancing human resources within the industry, especially in the area of management and professional development and seminars, as well as encouraging the local industry to have an “go-out” attitude through various overseas visit. The aim of these activities is to enhance the quality and competitiveness of the industry.
