International Trade and Investment Forum 2005

The “International Trade and Investment Forum 2005”, held today at 14:00 on the 3rd floor of the Macao Tower Convention & Entertainment Centre, is one of the most important event in The 10th Macao International Trade & Investment Fair (MIF).

The Secretary for Economy and Finance of the Macao SAR, Mr Francis Tam Pak Yuen, Vice President of All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce, Hu Deping, Economy, Growth and Competitiveness of Cape Verde, Mr Joao Pereira Silva, Minister of Industry & Commerce of Mozambique, Mr Antonio Fernando, Assistant Chairman of China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, Mr Wang Jinzhen make the speech regarding the development trend of Macao, Mainland China, African countries and the global economy at the forum. Hundreds of economist and guesses attend this forum.

Mr Francis Tam Pak Yuen said that the themes of MIF would be “ Promoting Regional Cooperation for the Development of Economic Diversification” and the issues of regional trade cooperation. He emphasised that the promotion of economic cooperation and participation of regional economic development are the fundamental strategies of Macao SAR’s economic development. According to the advantages of Macao, The SAR Government was shaping Macao as a gaming tourism center and a regional trading platform with convenience, effectiveness and cost effectiveness. Specially between China and Portuguese Speaking Countries and Chinese entrepreneurs all over the world. The economy of Macao had been developing since six years ago steadily which is demonstrated by the consecutive five years of profits. Although the growth of Macao’s economy slows down slightly this year; the outlook of development remains positive.

Vice President of All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce, Hu Deping made a briefing on “Economic Globalization & Outstand Performance of China”, “Commercialization & the strategy of civil Enrichment” and “Pan Pearl River Delta & Economic Advantages of Macao”. He said that the development of Chinese economy should not be seen as a threat but a contribution, and that China’s reformation and open up policy was based on the eventual achievement of a generally wealthy society.

He said that Macao’s urban development had yet to match the development in tourism and gaming industry and the civil construction operators in in Pearl Delta River were willing contribute in this project.
