Since Macao’s return to China five years ago, the government of the Macao Special Administration Region has made a great effort to improve the local business environment, strengthen regional co-operation and build Macao into an economic and trade co-operation platform for the mutual benefit of all. The MSAR government has also defined its strategy for economic development. With gaming and tourism being the leading industry, the government of the MSAR is also encouraging the development of other industries for a better and moderately diversified industrial structure. With the GDP growing 28% in 2004, Macao’s economy is entering a period of rapid growth. Meanwhile, the international role of Macao is also improving, which is making it the ideal place for investment.
Macao International Trade & Investment Fair (MIF) is the only international exhibition organised by the MSAR government, with its main activities including economic and trade negotiations, product displays, business matching and the exchange of information. It is also a big annual event for trade in Macao. MIF has been held successfully for nine years and has achieved great results since was first held in1996.
Based on its past successes, the 10th MIF will improve the style and content of the exhibition in order to be in line with the government’s economic policy and provide more business opportunities for participators. The 10th MIF, with “Promoting Regional Co-operation for Developing Economic Diversification” as the theme, will have hold a special area for Portuguese-speaking countries and will set up several special themed areas to attract economic and trade organisations, government institutions, corporations, traders and investors from around the world. It will also create a buyer’s corner, a negotiation area, and business matching sessions, signing ceremonies, seminars and presentations. It will improve the different kinds of services so as to provide a great co-operative opportunity and the prospects of business development.

The Successful Record of the 9th MIF
- The 9th MIF attracted corporate delegates from 37 countries and regions and over 100,000 visitors.
- There were 332 booths, plus 37 forums/seminars/briefings and presentations, 132 business matching meeting, 23 contracts singed.
