Macao-the Dynamic City

Macao is located next to Guangdong province, on the western side of the Pearl River Delta, 60 km from Hong Kong. It covers an area of 27.3 sq. km and is comprised of the Macao Peninsula plus the islands of Taipa and Coloane, with a population around 465,000. Macao is a free port and open trading area. Macao has a promising and dynamic future, there are numerous large constructions in progress and a great deal of investment being made as well as a series of international events being hosted, including the 4th East Asian Games and the 2005 Asian Trading Promotion Forum.

The GDP has been increasing dramatically. In 2004 the GDP and GDP per capita reached MOP82.69 billions and MOP 180,965 respectively. Foreign Investment in 2003 reached MOP28.7 billions. The number of tourists visiting has reached an annual figure of 16.67 million. Total Exports in 2004 were MOP22.56 billion and Imports MOP27.9 billion. CEPA provides vast opportunities for Macao’s economic development and upon the full implementation, 501 products will enjoy zero tariffs and 26 sectors will benefit from easy access to the Mainland markets.
