Foreword
China’s privately owned enterprises have
gradually become one of the principal driving forces of China’s
economic development and social progress, especially after their
important role was acknowledged by the 16th CPC National Congress.
With the globalisation of the world economy and China’s entry
into the WTO, they have been more and more actively involved in
international economic and trade co-operations as well as improving
their competitiveness. They are striving to comply with standard
international commercial practice.
Macao, as one of China’s gateways to the
outside world, can capitalise on its many advantages to provide
local and abroad enterprises with various kinds of support and as
acting as an intermediary. While keeping and strengthening its extensive
international links, especially with the EU and Portuguese speaking
countries, the opening up of the gaming sector and continuously
improved investment environment has resulted in Macao drawing many
enterprises to invest here and to use the offshore services, and
many overseas organisations set up offices or chambers of commerce.
It is expected that with the implementing of the relevant measures
of “Closer Economic Partnership Agreement” (CEPA) between
Mainland China and Macao SAR, there will be more investors attracted
to the Territory and the co-operation and exchanges between overseas
and local enterprises are bound to be increased.
In order to improve Macao’s function as a
economic and trade platform for Mainland China enterprises, the
Convention will invite successful entrepreneurs from Mainland China
to share their experiences and business strategies, while at the
same time, to show those participating the abundant investment opportunities
in China and the market situation there. It is hoped by the various
business services and information provided, Macao can really function
as a bridge linking Mainland China’s Privately-owned Enterprises
to World Markets and a channel for both local and overseas enterprises
to search for co-operation.
